By setting up a simple automation, you can have Siri play a custom audio clip—like a favorite movie theme or a cheerful greeting—every time your iPhone connects to CarPlay.

Engadget reports that this trick is straightforward and doesn't require any special hardware. You'll need an iPhone, the Shortcuts app (which comes preinstalled on iOS), and an audio file saved to the Files app. The automation triggers as soon as your iPhone establishes a connection with your car's CarPlay system, and the sound plays through the vehicle's speakers.

To set it up, first save your chosen audio file in a folder within the Files app, making sure it's easy to find later. Then, open the Shortcuts app, go to the Automation tab, and create a new automation. Select CarPlay as the trigger, choose "Is Connected" and "Run Immediately," and then add a "File" action. Select the audio file you saved earlier, and you're done. The Shortcuts options may vary slightly depending on your iPhone model and iOS version, but the core steps remain the same.

One important note: keep your custom greeting short—about two to five seconds—so it doesn't interfere with navigation prompts or other important audio. Also, the volume may be tied to the original recording or your iPhone's current volume, so you might need to adjust it after testing.

If you want to tweak your automation later, you can easily change the audio file, add more actions, or even disable it without deleting the setup. For example, you could set the automation to play a morning briefing, open your navigation app, or start a playlist.
