Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, will be available for preorder starting tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. EST / 12:00 p.m. GMT, according to TechRadar. The device is priced at $1,999 / £1,999 and will be sold through Apple's online and physical stores, as well as major carriers including Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, O2, Vodafone, and EE.

Ahead of the launch, TechRadar's retail editor Alex has outlined several steps buyers can take now to smooth the process.

Pre-save your details

One of the most recommended tips is to input your shipping, color, storage, and trade-in information on the Apple Store ahead of time. This can save valuable minutes once preorders open. While it's uncertain whether the iPhone Duo will sell out, TechRadar notes that high-end foldables are often produced in smaller quantities than mass-market phones. Pre-saving could make the difference between securing a device and missing out.

Check carrier promotions

Several carriers have already announced launch offers. Verizon is promoting an all-in-one deal that bundles the device with an unlimited data plan for $72. AT&T is offering discounts up to $1,200 with a trade-in and a new plan, while T-Mobile is providing up to $1,000 off with a trade-in and a new plan. TechRadar suspects additional non-trade-in savings may also be available.

For those interested in an unlocked device, Apple's trade-in estimator can provide an idea of how much an old phone is worth. Current rebates are capped at $885 / £855, but hitting that maximum requires a relatively new device in good condition. Even with an older phone, it's worth checking the estimated value in advance.

Consider visiting a store

According to a tweet by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman cited by TechRadar, Apple retail stores will offer a customization feature for the iPhone Duo: buyers can have their name programmed into the boot-up sequence, so the device greets them personally when first turned on. This option is limited to the US, the Duo, and English or Spanish. Beyond that perk, in-store purchases may avoid potential online delivery delays if preorder traffic is heavy, though TechRadar notes such delays haven't been a major issue in recent years.

More to explore

TechRadar also points to additional coverage, including a story about Nothing's CEO calling the iPhone Duo 'a waste of money,' and an expert feature on Apple's new Upgrade program. These perspectives may help shoppers decide whether the foldable is right for them.

As with any major launch, preorder demand and carrier terms can shift, so verifying final details directly with Apple or your chosen carrier is advisable before committing.
