Dell 27 Plus QHD Monitor Drops to $170: What Home Office Users Should Know

A 27-inch QHD Dell monitor is discounted to $170 on Amazon, offering a resolution bump over 1080p and a fully adjustable stand, though a sibling model earned stronger marks in testing.

A midrange monitor at a lower price

TechRadar reports that Dell's 27 Plus S2725DSM monitor is available on Amazon for $169.99, down from a list price of $219.99. The publication notes this is not the lowest price the display has reached — it previously sold for $161.49.

The S2725DSM is a 27-inch IPS panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. According to Dell's specifications cited in the coverage, it offers a 1500:1 contrast ratio, 350 nits of brightness, a 144Hz refresh rate, and AMD FreeSync support. It ships with HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity, dual 3W speakers, and a stand that supports height, tilt, pivot, and swivel adjustments.

Dell also touts ComfortView Plus and a TÜV Rheinland 4-star eye comfort certification for reduced blue light emissions. The matte finish is intended to cut down reflections from windows and overhead lighting, a practical consideration for many home office setups.

What this means for daily use

The headline improvement over a 1080p display is desktop space. A 1440p panel at this size gives you more room for side-by-side windows, which matters if you routinely keep multiple applications open. The built-in speakers mean you can skip external audio gear for video calls or casual listening, though 3W drivers are modest and won't replace dedicated speakers for anyone who cares about audio quality.

The adjustable stand is a more meaningful feature than it might sound. Height, tilt, pivot, and swivel adjustments let you position the screen for comfort during long working sessions, something fixed-stand budget monitors can't offer.

The evidence caveat

TechRadar's coverage is explicit that it has not reviewed this specific model. The editorial assessment instead leans on a four-star review of the Dell 27 Plus S2725HSM — described as essentially the same monitor but with a Full HD resolution. In that review, TechRadar's Collin said the monitor "does everything a remote worker or general office staff needs it to do, and does it well."

That's a reasonable proxy, but it isn't the same product. The resolution difference is exactly the feature most relevant to a buyer considering this deal, so the endorsement should be treated as suggestive rather than confirmed for this model.

Who should consider it

This monitor suits home office workers, students, and anyone wanting a larger, sharper display for everyday computing, multitasking, and entertainment on a budget.

TechRadar suggests buyers should look elsewhere if they need 4K resolution, USB-C connectivity, or laptop charging over a single cable. Those are real gaps. USB-C with power delivery is increasingly common in this segment, and its absence means you'll need a separate cable for charging and likely a dongle or dock for laptops with limited ports.

4K would also deliver noticeably sharper text and more fine detail, which matters for certain document-heavy or design work. Whether that's worth the extra spend depends on your tasks and budget, but it's the clearest trade-off at this price.

The bottom line

At $170, the S2725DSM offers a well-equipped 27-inch QHD panel with ergonomic adjustments and built-in audio. The discount is real, but modest compared to a previous low. For buyers who don't need USB-C or 4K and want more screen real estate than 1080p provides, it's a reasonable candidate worth comparing against similarly priced alternatives.
