Samsung Raises Australian Galaxy S26 Prices, But Amazon Deal Cuts 32% Off Base Model

Samsung has raised Australian prices across its Galaxy S26 lineup, joining other phone makers responding to RAM and storage shortages. According to TechRadar, the base 256GB Galaxy S26 launched at AU$1,399, rose to AU$1,549, and earlier this month increased by another AU$100 to AU$1,649. Other S26 models saw hikes ranging from AU$100 to AU$250 depending on configuration.

Despite these increases, TechRadar reports that most Australian retailers have not yet passed on the full higher prices. Amazon currently offers the 256GB base Galaxy S26 for AU$1,127, a 32% discount from the revised RRP. The deal is available in Black, Cobalt Violet, Sky Blue, and White, with additional savings possible through trade-in.

This price is below Samsung’s new Galaxy S26 FE mid-ranger and Apple’s budget iPhone 17e, according to the report. For that money, buyers get a flagship Android handset with a triple-camera setup, 12GB of RAM, and the full Galaxy AI suite.

TechRadar’s review of the Galaxy S26 praised its bright AMOLED display, reliable cameras, and long battery life. The base model now starts at 256GB storage, up from 128GB on the predecessor, and the screen size increased slightly from 6.2 to 6.3 inches while keeping the same physical dimensions.

One notable difference for Australian buyers: the local model uses Samsung’s Exynos 2600 processor instead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset found in the US version. TechRadar cites Tom’s Guide testing indicating the performance difference is marginal in most scenarios.

The review also highlighted two shortcomings: relatively slow 25W charging and a lack of full Qi2 wireless charging support. TechRadar’s reviewer concluded the phone is only worth buying when discounted—a condition now met by the Amazon deal. Overall, the publication still considers the Galaxy S26 a solid entry-level flagship and an easy recommendation despite those caveats.

The S26 series launched in March and has been available for just over six months, with discounts seen during major Australian sale events like EOFY and Prime Day. Samsung’s recently released 2026 foldables and the Galaxy S26 FE have not seen price hikes as of October 14, though most arrived with increases over their predecessors.

For consumers, the key question is whether the improvements over the Galaxy S25 justify an upgrade at the higher price points. The storage bump to 256GB, slightly larger screen, and AI features are meaningful daily-use changes, but the processor difference and charging limitations may give some buyers pause. At the discounted Amazon price, the calculus shifts in the S26’s favor.
