Apple's Foldable Debut: iPhone Duo to Capture Nearly a Quarter of 2026 Foldable Market
Apple has announced its first foldable iPhone, the Duo, and TrendForce expects it to take about 24.8% of the foldable market in 2026, second only to Samsung. The overall foldable market is barely growing, with Apple's entry mostly offsetting declines from Android rivals.

Apple has unveiled its first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, which opens and closes like a book with a 7.6-inch main panel and a 5.4-inch outer screen. According to market research firm TrendForce, the device is projected to ship roughly 5 million units in 2026, giving Apple about 24.8% of the foldable market and placing it second behind Samsung. NoypiGeeks Tech News reported the announcement and the TrendForce projections.
Worldwide foldable shipments for 2026 are expected to total 20.2 million units, a gain of just 0.5% over the previous year. Excluding Apple, Android makers would move only about 15.2 million units collectively, a decline of more than 20%. TrendForce attributes the contraction to more expensive components, and most brands are expected to match or fall short of last year's shipment figures.
Samsung is forecast to remain the leader with 7.1 million units and a 35.1% share. Huawei is projected to follow with around 5 million units and 24.8%, tying Apple's expected share.
The iPhone Duo emphasizes a slim and durable design. Its inner display uses 10 layers of ultra-thin materials and a special surface treatment to make the crease less noticeable. The frame and hinge cover are made of Grade 5 titanium. The device weighs approximately 254 grams, measures 5.2 mm when open, and 11.3 mm when folded shut.
To achieve this thinness, Apple omitted a periscope telephoto lens. The 48 MP main camera provides 2x zoom instead, and Touch ID has been moved to the side, replacing Face ID. The phone runs iOS 27, which brings improvements to Split View for running two apps, better movement between the two screens, and layouts that adjust based on the folding angle.
TrendForce characterizes 2026 as a reset year for foldables. Currently, iPhone Duo purchases are largely canceling out losses from competing brands. Looking further ahead, Apple's demand for panels, ultra-thin glass, and hinges could accelerate supply chain expansion. It could also prompt Samsung and Chinese competitors to revisit their product roadmaps.
For consumers and businesses in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, the iPhone Duo's arrival may signal a shift in the foldable segment. Apple's entry could spur more competition and innovation, potentially leading to more options and features. However, the high cost of components and the modest overall market growth suggest that foldables may remain a premium niche for now. The impact on local pricing and availability will depend on factors such as import duties, carrier partnerships, and consumer demand, which are not detailed in the current projections. As the market evolves, stakeholders in the region should monitor how Apple's supply chain demands and competitor responses shape the availability and affordability of foldable devices.
