Marvel Studios used this year’s Comic-Con to unveil several major upcoming projects, including the casting of Ryan Gosling as the MCU’s Ghost Rider and a release date for Black Panther III.
The Ryan Gosling-led Ghost Rider film will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool & Wolverine, and is expected to hit theaters in 2028. The announcement came as part of Marvel’s Hall H presentation, which also featured director Ryan Coogler confirming Black Panther III for December 15th, 2028. Coogler introduced David Jonsson as the son of T’Challa and the new Black Panther, succeeding the late Chadwick Boseman’s character. Jonsson’s previous credits include The Long Walk and Alien Romulus.
Additionally, Marvel debuted a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which hinted at another cast addition. Ryan Reynolds, in character as Deadpool, appeared in the audience and jokingly asked directors Joe and Anthony Russo if there was a role for him in the film. The Russos responded that the movie was essentially complete but suggested they might accommodate him. It was also confirmed that Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter.
While the announcements were less dramatic than previous Comic-Con events, Marvel still managed to generate significant buzz with these reveals. The Black Panther franchise continues to evolve with a new lead, while the Ghost Rider property gets a fresh start with Gosling’s star power. The Avengers: Doomsday trailer and Reynolds’ cameo suggest the film may include unexpected surprises, though no official timeline for its release has been provided.
Marvel’s Comic-Con presentation underscores the studio’s long-term planning, with projects stretching into the late 2020s. The selection of Jonsson as the new Black Panther signals a strategic pivot for the franchise, tying its future to the legacy of T’Challa.
