Kodak Charmera Returns to Original Price for Prime Day, but a Cheaper Keychain Camera May Be Better Value

The viral Kodak Charmera is back to its $30 price for Prime Day, but TechRadar's cameras editor points to a cheaper alternative with better specs and multiple designs.

The Kodak Charmera, the miniature keychain camera that went viral last year, is back to its original price for Amazon Prime Day. According to TechRadar, the Charmera is available for $29.74 in the US and £29.75 in the UK, covering both the original and the newer Millennium editions. That restores the price to its pre-viral level after demand had pushed it higher.

The Charmera is a 1.6MP digital camera that comes in a blind box, meaning buyers cannot choose which of the six designs they receive. There is a 1 in 49 chance of getting a limited-edition version. A microSD card is not included. The Millennium edition, introduced this year, adds new photo filters and a Y2K-inspired design collection, but is otherwise identical to the original and also ships in a blind box.

TechRadar's cameras editor, who has used both the Charmera and a competing model extensively, argues that the Charmera is a solid gift idea but not a route to high-quality photos. The more interesting proposition, according to the same reporting, is the Photo Creator Mini cam (series 3), which costs $15.73 in the US and £10.40 in the UK. That is roughly half the price of the Charmera in the US and about a third of the price in the UK.

The Photo Creator Mini is also a lo-fi toy camera, but its specifications are notably higher on paper. It offers 3MP stills, 1080p video, a built-in LED light, six customizable photo frames, and eight color filters. It also includes a 1GB microSD card. It comes in multiple designs that mimic SLR, instant, and compact camera styles, and the pink version is listed at the lowest price.

For buyers, the choice comes down to what they value. The Charmera offers the appeal of a viral brand, a blind-box unboxing experience, and a known design language. The Photo Creator Mini offers more features, a lower price, and the ability to choose a specific design rather than leaving it to chance. Neither camera is positioned for serious photography; both are explicitly lo-fi and intended as fun, carry-anywhere devices.

The reporting notes that the Charmera's price increase had been driven by its viral popularity, and that the Prime Day discount wipes out that increase. It does not claim the Charmera is a better or worse camera than the Photo Creator Mini in absolute terms, only that the latter costs much less and includes more features. The editor's recommendation is based on hands-on use of both models.

For anyone considering a miniature keychain camera as a gift or impulse purchase, the key trade-offs are clear. The Charmera offers brand recognition and a collectible blind-box element at around $30. The Photo Creator Mini offers a lower price, more capable specs, and design choice at around $16 in the US or £10 in the UK. Availability and pricing may vary by region and promotion period. TechRadar's full reviews and hands-on coverage provide further detail for those who want to compare image quality and usability directly.
