Amazon's October Prime Day event has discounted Apple's latest MacBook Air models, effectively reversing the price increases Apple introduced in June. According to The Verge, the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M5 chip and 512GB of storage is available for $1,099, down from its usual $1,299. The 15-inch version, also with 512GB, is priced at $1,299, reduced from $1,499.

The M5 MacBook Air, which The Verge refers to as Apple's 2026 model, brings improvements to both processor and storage speed. The Verge notes that the storage is significantly faster than previous generations and that the machine is noticeably quicker than Apple's $699 MacBook Neo. The 15-inch variant adds two extra speakers (six total) and two additional GPU cores for better graphical performance, along with its larger display.

Despite the higher base price, The Verge's review describes the M5 MacBook Air as "still as excellent as ever." The publication highlights its long battery life, bright screen, and excellent speakers as key strengths. The update does not introduce flashy new features compared to the previous generation, but the speed improvements to the processor and storage are described as noticeable.

For buyers, the discount makes the midrange laptop a more compelling proposition. The Verge suggests that at the sale price, the machine offers better value, especially when compared to the lower-priced MacBook Neo. The 15-inch model's additional speakers and GPU cores may appeal to those who want a larger screen and slightly better graphical performance.

The sale is part of Amazon's October Prime Day, a shopping event that often includes discounts on Apple products. The Verge notes that it may earn a commission from links, but its editorial content remains independent.

This deal effectively offsets the price increases Apple implemented in June, bringing the starting price of the M5 MacBook Air back to a level more in line with previous generations. For anyone considering an upgrade, the M5 chip and faster storage are the main draws, while the design and features remain largely unchanged from the prior model.
