Philippine Virtual Assistant Roles Shift Toward Multi-Skill, Part-Time Work

Foreign companies hiring Filipino virtual assistants are increasingly seeking workers who can cover several business functions rather than a single administrative task, according to a study by recruitment agency VA Masters.

The study examined 323 roles posted by 253 companies between February and August 2026. It found that only about a quarter of the positions focused on one task, while roughly three-fourths required handling responsibilities across two or three operational areas. On average, each role covered about two categories.

Administrative and operational support remained the largest single category, at nearly 38 percent of job orders. But those duties were often paired with work such as managing customer relationship management platforms, social media marketing, and sales lead generation.

Part-time arrangements were the norm. About 72 percent of newly opened roles were part-time, with 46 percent requiring roughly 80 hours a month, or about 20 hours a week. Full-time positions made up 26 percent of openings, and project-based work accounted for 2 percent.

Alon Pearl, founder and CEO of VA Masters, said the arrangements let smaller companies add help without immediately committing to full-time hires. Pearl described a common need as a single person who can handle administration in the morning, update a CRM after lunch, and publish a social post before the day ends. He added that candidates who fare best tend to describe themselves by the problems they solve rather than by one narrow task.

The study also tracked how long companies took to fill different types of roles. Across all positions, the median hiring period was 15 days. Sales and business development roles filled fastest, at a median of 12 days. Administrative, technical development, and social media roles took 14 days. E-commerce positions averaged 16 days, marketing and advertising roles 17 days, and content writing roles were the slowest at 27 days.

The findings point to a shift in how overseas employers use Filipino remote workers. Rather than hiring for a single defined assistant function, companies appear to be consolidating administrative, sales, marketing, technical, and digital platform duties into individual roles. Familiarity with CRM systems, digital marketing tools, and automation platforms is becoming more important as a result.

For technology businesses in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, the data suggests demand is tilting toward workers who can move between tools and functions, and toward part-time or flexible arrangements over traditional full-time support roles.
