Smart #2 EV: A Tiny City Car With 180-Mile Range Debuts at Paris Motor Show
Smart returns to its ultra-compact roots with the #2, a two-seater EV with 180 miles of range and fast charging, but it may not reach the US.

Smart has introduced the #2, an ultra-compact electric vehicle, at the Paris Motor Show. The model marks a return to the brand's small-car origins after a series of SUV launches, according to Engadget.
The #2 is a two-seater designed to make city driving and parking easier. It is available in various two-tone color schemes reminiscent of the original Smart Fortwo. The car features a rear-mounted 60 kW electric motor producing 130 Nm of torque, with larger rear tires than front tires for added stability. A floor-mounted battery provides up to 180 miles (290 km) of range per charge, and fast charging can go from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes. Smart claims a five-link rear suspension delivers sportier handling and greater comfort.
Inside, the #2 includes driver assistance systems, a 10.1-inch central display, an 8.8-inch driver display, and wireless connectivity via 4G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Four trims are offered: Pure, Pure+, Premium, and Couture Edition. The Pure+ adds 11 kW AC charging and a heated driver seat. The Premium includes a glass roof, heated leather seats, and a seven-speaker Sennheiser audio system, plus additional color choices. The Couture Edition features a white exterior, gold-painted roof, and tires with gold detailing, limited to 999 units.
Pricing and availability are not finalized, but Smart says the starting price will be under $26,500 (£20,000). Preorders open in the spring, with deliveries expected in the summer. The #2 is unlikely to be sold in the United States, as Smart has not sold cars there since 2019 and the market favors larger EVs.
For city dwellers, the #2's compact size and 180-mile range could suit daily commutes and errands, but the lack of US availability limits its relevance for American buyers. The fast-charging capability and modern tech features are meaningful improvements over earlier ultra-compact EVs, though exact performance and real-world range remain unverified.
This report is based on information from Engadget. Smart has not independently confirmed all details, and pricing, range, and availability are subject to change.
