Spotify's Playlist Notes Add a Personal Touch to Your Music Curation

Spotify has introduced Playlist Notes, allowing users to attach short, personal annotations to tracks in their playlists, offering context and memories alongside the music.

Spotify is rolling out a new feature called Playlist Notes, which lets users attach brief, 250-character annotations to songs, podcasts, and audiobooks within their playlists. This tool aims to provide context and background to music choices, turning playlists into something like a diary entry for your audio preferences.

The feature builds on the existing User Notes, which were previously limited to songs only. Now, users can add notes to any audio item in their playlists, including episodes and books. The notes appear directly under the track, visible to anyone who views the playlist. This allows for personal memories, anecdotes, or explanations to be shared alongside the music.

Adding a note is straightforward: navigate to a playlist you've created or collaborated on, tap the three-dot icon next to a track, select 'Add note', type your message, and save. The note will then appear in the playlist, making it easy to recall why a particular song is there.

Spotify is also extending Playlist Notes to its editorial playlists, giving listeners insight into the curators' selections. This expansion begins with popular playlists like Today's Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, mint, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop. Free and Premium users aged 16 and over in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand can read these notes starting today.

Unlike many of Spotify's recent AI-driven features, Playlist Notes are entirely user-generated, offering a more human touch. For users who enjoy documenting their musical journey, this feature could become a valuable addition to their listening habits. The ability to see notes from editors also adds a layer of discovery, helping listeners understand the reasoning behind curated recommendations.

While Spotify already has a dense array of playlist tools, Playlist Notes stands out for its simplicity and personal nature. It's a feature that could easily become a staple for playlist creators who like to add context to their selections.
