ThreadPort browser extension moves individual AI chats between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini

A new Chrome and Edge extension transfers open conversations among three major AI chatbots, preserving context without importing your full history.

TechRadar reports on ThreadPort, a new browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge that moves an open conversation among ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The extension transfers the text of the discussion and some basic context as a single prompt plus a labeled transcript, letting the destination chatbot continue where the other left off.

Unlike built-in import tools, which can pull in your full profile or history, ThreadPort only shares what has been discussed in the current chat. You install the extension and grant it access to the three chatbot websites. With a conversation open, clicking ThreadPort and selecting a destination opens a new tab with the entire exchange placed in the prompt box. You can have it submitted automatically or leave it as a draft for editing first.

The extension's creator, Juan Carlos Rampoldi, built the tool with Claude Code and has published the source code on GitHub. He said he was frustrated by manually copying conversations and losing formatting or context when moving among the three services. Rampoldi plans to introduce a premium tier for unlimited transfers, with ten free transfers per month, but the extension currently does not enforce that limit.

TechRadar's Eric Hal Schwartz tested ThreadPort by asking ChatGPT to plan a three-day vacation and sending the conversation to Gemini. A new Gemini tab opened with the full discussion formatted and labeled, and buttons, citation controls, and other interface clutter were stripped away. Gemini received the trip plan intact, and Schwartz could ask Gemini to assess the plan without altering the earlier conversation. Sending from ChatGPT to Claude worked the same way. The extension supports all six possible transfer directions among the three platforms. In another test, moving an extended conversation from Gemini to Claude preserved a note that it had 'started on ChatGPT (via ChatGPT → Gemini)' and identified which chatbot produced each message.

ThreadPort is fast, completing transfers in seconds. Native import options are slower or more restricted. Google's import tool is limited to adult personal accounts and is not available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom. Claude cannot import conversation history at all, though it can import memory. ChatGPT can move conversations between accounts but has no native importer for rival services.

ThreadPort has limitations. It transfers text only; attached images, screenshots, or PDFs must be re-uploaded manually in the destination chatbot. For very long conversations, it may use 'smart truncation' to shorten the transcript, keeping the original task and recent exchanges while marking a section that might be omitted.

The developer says the extension has no servers and holds the transcript only briefly in Chrome's local extension storage before inserting it into the destination prompt box, then deletes the temporary copy. However, sending a conversation to another service still means sharing that content with the receiving AI company.

Overall, TechRadar finds ThreadPort a useful, efficient way to carry individual conversations between AI chatbots, reducing friction for people who routinely use multiple assistants without attempting to solve AI portability on a large scale.
